Sunflower #1

2000, acrylic on canvas, 8 x 10 inches

I wonder sometimes if every artist is driven to paint sunflowers in the hopes of capturing even a glimpse of the glory that Vincent Van Gogh found in the subject.  This treatment turned out to be very tactile, leaning on a heavily Rubenesque approach. The intense color defines the object against sky to create its very form.
