Sunflower #2

2001, acrylic on canvas, 8 x 8 inches

I keep coming back to Van Gogh's subject in an attempt to really capture the way colors build the form. I think this rendition is very free and alive because of the lack of boundary and line. The form seems able to flow unhindered within the plane because colors blend without obvious edges. At the same time, there is enough differentiation between colors to show the structure underneath the vibrant color. This subtle interplay captures the intense emotional associations sunflowers can create.
