Dancing Ladies
circa 1980, watercolor, 11.5 x 13 inches
As a young girl I loved to look through my grandmother’s LIFE books for grand images. I found a glorious scene of dancing ladies at a Parisian ball. The favorite photo inspired this fanciful painting that came from my imagination. It is easy to see the American influence, particularly impressions that were made by such grandiose epics as Gone With the Wind. Although the figures are not very dimensional, the intense colors and composition against the drab architectural surfaces give them an interesting interplay within the space.
