My Favorite Renoir.
A Study of Woman with a Parasol and Small Child on a Sunlit Hillside
2001,
acrylic on canvas, 26 x 28 inches
When I first saw Renoir's paining, the intensity of pink set against various complimentary hues of lime and evergreen took my breath away. I just could not get the painting out of my mind. I decided to paint my own version of it just so I could see this joyous combination of colors every day. I was pleased to discover that the strokes of this work, which are quite different than Renoir's, are very much my own style. Though impatient and broad, as a whole they lean toward a slightly more realistic representation
of the subject.
